Discover the transformative power of seated yoga with this comprehensive training course designed for yoga teachers seeking to expand their expertise and to deliver yoga to a broader audience.
The sessions will be interactive and experiential, with lecture, handouts, yoga practices, discussion, small group work, and teaching practice. Training handouts will be provided, including a list of resources for further learning and inspiration.
Explore the therapeutic benefits of chair yoga, from enhancing strength, mobility and flexibility to promoting better breathing, relaxation and stress relief.
*Weekend 1*
- Will equip you with the skills and confidence to lead impactful chair yoga classes that inspire and uplift, and that provide a breadth of practices beyond asana.
- Discover innovative ways to adapt traditional yoga practices to accommodate varying student abilities and endurance levels.
- Discuss barriers to attending a yoga class and ways to encourage participation.
- Gain valuable insights into physiology, alignment, and coordination, empowering you to create safe and inclusive classes for diverse populations.
- Get creative with props, to enhance asana benefits. Integrate breath awareness, philosophy, and mindfulness into chair classes, and consider Pranayama options and precautions. Work in small groups to sequence and teach a selection of practices.
*Weekend 2*
- Dives deeper, embedding kosha and chakra energy models with chair yoga principles.
- Explore specific health conditions students may have, including Parkinson’s, MS, ME & Fatigue Conditions, Dementia, Arthritis and joint issues (including the spine) and the energetic implications of each.
- Discuss methods of pacing, use of repetition and helpful adaptions.
- Consider a variety of teaching environments (e.g. care home vs. yoga studio vs. hired space), how this alters the student mix, and the influence on teaching approach.
- Role-play as teacher and student for different environments and student conditions: share ideas and offer constructive feedback. Design and deliver a short chair based class for a specific environment and client group.

About Ruth :
Ruth Henderson-Cash is a Yoga Therapist with experience of working with a wide range of health conditions. She has taught mat based and chair yoga for over 10 years, and has assisted on yoga teacher training courses. She is part of the OrangeYoga team delivering the Yoga Therapy Teacher Training which starts in September 2024.

Please note Workshops will be refunded only if we can find someone to take your place. Obviously we will take account of exceptional circumstances.
