This Training is For :
Anyone with 2 years of yoga experience - school teachers, teaching assistants, yoga teachers, yoga teacher trainees etc.
Training Overview :
Yoga is for everyone, including children. It supports and enhances physical, emotional and cognitive development and all-round wellbeing – vital skills in a world that has placed increasing demands on children.
This is a teacher training with Susannah Hoffman, one of the foremost children’s yoga teachers in the UK and author of the best-selling book Yoga for Kids.
The course will cover teaching children from ages 2–3, 4–6, 7–9 and 10–14. You’ll learn how to teach interactive classes based on yoga asana combined with other movement to develop co-ordination, creative expression and motor skills.
The course is structured into clear, separate sections and will provide you with the necessary skills to teach yoga to children. The course is open to yoga teachers as well as dedicated students with a regular practice or professionals who work with children and want to learn how to integrate aspects of yoga into their work.
Course Content :
This course is structured into clear separate sections and will provide you with the necessary skills to teach yoga to children. School teachers will also learn how to integrate aspects of the training into regular classroom time as appropriate. You will learn to teach children up to 14.
Learning Outcomes :
During the course, you will:
• learn appropriate postures for each age group
• learn about physical and cognitive development of each age group and how to support this in classes
• better understand typical behaviour of children
• learn how to manage large groups
• develop class plans for each age group
• learn what legal requirements are needed (insurance, DBS check, etc)
Eligibility and Pre-Requisites :
This training is open to yoga teachers as well as dedicated students who have been practising yoga solidly for at least two years.
Accreditation :
This training is accredited as a vocational training course by Yoga Alliance Professionals and meets BWY requirements for CPD.
About Susannah :
Susannah Hoffman studied yoga as a child and grew up immersed in Eastern philosophy and a number of meditation traditions. She has been teaching for more than 25 years and her teaching style is her own, incorporating influences from the many styles and traditions of yoga that she has studied and practised over the years. One of the original teachers on Triyoga London's teacher training programme and training 100’s of teachers she went on to create her own Teacher training ’ The Essence of Being’ which she is on her third intake, Susannah also teaches pregnancy yoga, postnatal yoga, kids classes and beginners’ classes and courses. Each student is treated as an individual, encouraged to work at their own level and take responsibility for their own wellbeing. Susannah is a qualified British Wheel of Yoga teacher and a Senior Teacher and Yoga Pro with Yoga Alliance Professionals UK. She is author of the best-selling book Yoga for Kids, published by DK.
Anatomy :
The anatomy part of the training will be pre-recorded with Andrew McGonigle aka Dr Yogi.
About Andrew :
After training to become a doctor, Andrew moved away from Western medicine to pursue a career as a yoga teacher, massage therapist and anatomy teacher. He has been practising yoga and meditation since 2005 and teaching strong, grounding and inclusive classes since 2009. Andrew combines all of his skills to teach anatomy and physiology on yoga teacher training courses internationally and has taught on Susannah Hoffman’s yoga for kids training since it began.
He is the author of Supporting Yoga Students with Common Injuries and Conditions. He also contributed to two popular books, Yoga Teaching Handbook: A Practical Guide for Yoga Teachers and Trainees and Yoga Student Handbook: Develop Your Knowledge of Yoga Principles and Practice.
