About the class

Come and experience this practice of guided meditation or ‘yogic sleep’. Practised lying down or in a comfortable seated position, you will leave feeling not only relaxed but also energised.

It’s a time to connect with your deeper self and take some time out from our busy lives.

Workshop details:

The benefits of Yoga Nidra include a greater sense of self compassion, increased creativity, better awareness of our internal sense of the mind and body, a soothing of the nervous system and improved self nurturing.

This workshop will include a shorter then a longer Yoga Nidra practice, with opportunities to move and stretch in between.

The history of Yoga Nidra is said to be as old as yoga itself. It is mentioned in the Mahabharata, to describe Vishnu’s sleep between the Ages of Time and in Buddhist Tantric texts as a “place beyond words”. It has a measurable calming effect on the brain and nervous system.

A nurturing experience of effortless relaxation and meditation, Yoga Nidra takes you to the liminal state between sleeping and waking, where you can become more aware of your feelings, emotions and creativity.

* Suitable for everyone.

* Props and blankets will be available in the studio for the making of your Yoga Nidra nest.

* Wear loose, comfortable clothing (pyjamas are fine!!) and bring your favourite blanket if you want to.

About Maureen :

When I started my teacher training with OrangeYoga, my aim was to pursue my interests in both yoga and lifelong learning. I had no plans to teach but as the training progressed, and with support from my fellow trainees, I found that I wanted to share my love of yoga with almost everyone I met. I draw on all my yoga influences in my classes, adding a touch of somatics, pranayama and mindfulness for increased awareness of the mind/body/breath fusion which I believe is really important for us all.

I have worked as a mental health nurse in the NHS for many years and believe that my yoga practice has strongly enhanced my own mental health. I was starting to think about retirement so am amazed to find myself now teaching yoga, but I cannot help wanting to share the benefits I’ve had from this wonderful practice with others.

* Please note Workshops will be refunded only if we can find someone to take your place. Obviously we will take account of exceptional circumstances - please contact reception at studio@orangeyoga.co.uk and we’ll be happy to help *
