About the class

For : This weekend is open to all, including those who do not teach yoga professionally.

SATURDAY:

A day providing a wealth of information and creative ideas to demonstrate the versatility of Chair Yoga .

Richard will provide you with the necessary tools to guide the less-abled towards maintaining a safe degree of exercise and movement to help reduce deterioration in older age and promote health and independence with a view to a healthier outlook.

Due to the effects of ageing or disability some old_people are unable to participate in a traditional mat based yoga class, and chair yoga offers a practical solution by finding ways to reduce complicated manoeuvres and movements to simpler, user-friendly procedures.

The first part of the session will focus on a variety of sitting Chair stretches and movements for old_people with reduced mobility or physical restrictions due to injury, specific conditions or age related symptoms.

The second part will explore a variety of standing stretches and movements using a Chair which are more suitable for old_people with a higher degree of mobility but who have some limited restrictions which make a Mat based class unsuitable.

We will discuss lesson planning, use of props, creating sequences with an opportunity to interact and ask questions.

* You will become increasingly confident in making a difference to the lives of those who experience difficulty taking part in traditional yoga classes.

* Your knowledge in creating the optimum environment for classes to become engaging, interactive and supportive will evolve.

* You will also learn anti-rheumatic methods to help release tension in the limbs and joints.

By the end of this day you will have learned how to structure and plan a yoga session for adults with physical restrictions and learn skills you can implement in both a one to one and group setting

You will learn skills to help empower a less mobile person to use yoga and become physically, emotionally and psychologically stronger.

SUNDAY :

Richard will provide you with the necessary tools to guide old_people with specific conditions to exercise in a safe and effective way.

We explore how yoga can be adapted to meet their needs so old_people can maintain a safe degree of exercise and movement to help alleviate their symptoms.

The morning will focus on a number of neurological conditions like Parkinson`s, Multiple sclerosis, Stroke and Dementia and how to adapt yoga with a variety of sitting Chair stretches and movements to counter the restrictions old_people may experience.

The afternoon will focus on the elderly and the effects of ageing which can restrict movement and mobility and how yoga can be applied in a safe and beneficial way. Topics include Arthritis, osteoporosis, auto-immune conditions, hips, knees and a host of other conditions related to ageing such as high blood pressure, anxiety, depression and chronic pain.

We will discuss lesson planning with interactive work in groups to explore suitable lessons for some chosen conditions.

There will be an opportunity to share and ask questions.
