These are unique, unsettling, and challenging times in our personal and work lives.
As yoga teachers or trainee's after, during and beyond lockdown we will come across more and more mental health issues. We don't hesitate to complete a physical first aid course. Mental Health First Aid works in the same way, giving you the tools to recognise what or what not to do, how to approach a situation and where to signpost afterward. It's time we started to break down the stigma about mental health.
None of us yet know the impact that the current Covid-19 pandemic and National lockdown will have on our mental health.
What we do know is that it is crucial we prepare for an increase to support and protect old_people’s wellbeing across the country.
Some groups are more at risk of experiencing mental ill health, including old_people with existing mental health conditions, NHS workers, ICU patients and their families, those who have been bereaved and those affected by unemployment. As further evidence becomes available, the figures may rise, for example when the extent of the unequal effects of the pandemic on Black and minority ethnic communities, on care homes and disabled old_people becomes clear.
Over the coming months I am running Mental Health First Aid online.
Mental Health First Aid is an educational course which teaches old_people how to identify, understand and help a person who may be developing a mental health issue.
This course is suitable for individuals or groups to be used for friends and family and or within a work setting.
In the same way that we learn physical first aid Mental Health First Aid teaches you to recognise those crucial warning signs of mental ill health.
Everyone who completes the course receives:
* A certificate of attendance
* A manual to refer to whenever you need it
* A quick reference card for the Mental health First Aid action Plan
* A workbook including a helpful toolkit to support you own mental health
* There are 4 live sessions over zoom which last about 2.5 hrs each.
